Horst Pietsch

Horst Werner Pietsch (born June 7, 1934 in Gnoien ; † July 23, 2019 ) was a German politician ( SED ). From 1971 to 1977 he was Lord Mayor of the city of Schwerin .

Life

Pietsch, the son of an employee, attended elementary school and completed a commercial apprenticeship. He then worked as a commercial clerk. From 1949 to 1951 he worked as a clerk for the city of Schwerin. In 1951 he studied at the finance school in Königs Wusterhausen . He later completed a distance learning course at the University of Rostock , which he graduated in 1966 with a degree in economics.

Pietsch joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) in 1953. From 1951 to 1960 he was department head at the councils of the Ludwigslust and Gadebusch districts . From 1962 to 1968 he was a member and deputy of the chairman of the district council and chairman of the district planning commission in Gadebusch. From 1968 to 1971 he was a research assistant for the chairman of the Schwerin district council . From April 1971 to September 1977 he was Lord Mayor of Schwerin. Pietsch was elected the successor of the recalled Franz Schönbeck at an extraordinary meeting of the Schwerin city council. At the same time he became a member of the secretariat of the SED district leadership Schwerin-Stadt. From August 1977 to 1989 he acted as the first secretary of the SED district leadership in Schwerin-Stadt (successor to Horst Weigt, who had been replaced in April 1977 because of “non-partisan behavior” ).

From February 1974 he was a candidate and from April 1976 to 1989 he was a member of the SED district leadership in Schwerin. From 1977 Pietsch was a member of the secretariat of the SED district leadership in Schwerin and later also a member of the Schwerin district assembly .

Pietsch was married and the father of two children.
