Helmut Oder

Helmut Oder (born May 26, 1940 in Eisfeld, district of Ohlau ) is a former German economic functionary and politician ( SED ). He was Lord Mayor of Schwerin .

Life

Or, the son of a master blacksmith, attended elementary and vocational school . He completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith. From 1958 to 1961 he studied at the Wildau engineering school . 1972 qualified as a graduate engineer. In 1981 he was at the engineering school Wismar to Dr. oec. PhD.

In 1963, Oder joined the SED. In 1964 he became plant manager at VEB drawing tools and equipment construction in Bad Liebenwerda . From 1965 to 1970 he was a member of the Cottbus District Economic Council . From 1970 to 1972 he was head of department in the Schwerin-Süd consortium, then from 1973 to 1975 he was head of plant construction at the Schwerin construction site. From 1975 to 1977 he was temporarily director of the heavy construction site Schwerin-Süd of VEB INEX Berlin. From April 1977 to May 1984 he acted as deputy chairman of the Schwerin District Council and Chairman of the District Economic Council, responsible for the district-managed and food industry and local utilities (ÖVW) (successor to Walter Resch ). From 1981 to 1990 he was a member of the district assembly . In 1982/83 he studied at the Academy for Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the CPSU in Moscow . From May 1984 to May 1990 he held the office of Lord Mayor of Schwerin (successor to Frank Grimm ). At the same time he was a member of the secretariat of the SED district leadership Schwerin-Stadt. On February 9, 1987, in Wuppertal , he signed an agreement on the town twinning between Schwerin and Wuppertal with the mayor Ursula Kraus . Or played volleyball in the district league before 1984 in the sport association progress Schwerin.

After 1990, Oder moved to Hanover and worked there for an insurance company.
