Walter Resch (politician, 1937)

Walter Resch (born February 27, 1937 in Steinach ) is a former German politician ( SED ) and trade unionist ( FDGB ). He was chairman of the FDGB district board of Schwerin and chairman of the district economic council of Schwerin.

Life

The son of a working-class family learned the trade of toolmaker after attending elementary school and then worked as a mechanic in an industrial company in Sonneberg . From 1954 to 1957 he attended the Workers and Farmers Faculty (ABF) in Jena and obtained his Abitur. From 1957 to 1961 he studied economics at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig with a degree in economics. He then completed additional studies in Leningrad and Moscow until 1962 and was a brief research assistant at the Africa Institute in Leipzig in 1962/63.

Resch became a member of the SED in 1962 and was politically active from 1963. He went to Schwerin and in 1963/64 was the main consultant in the Schwerin District Council . From 1964 to 1969 he was sector head, department head and deputy chairman, and from 1973/74 he was acting chairman of the District Economic Council (BWR). From February 1974 to March 1977 he acted as deputy chairman of the Schwerin district council for district-managed industry, food industry and local utilities and as chairman of the BWR (successor to Herbert Oleszak). From March 26, 1977 to 1989, he was chairman of the FDGB District Board in Schwerin and from May 19, 1977 (9th FDGB Congress) to 1989 he was a member of the FDGB Federal Board. From February 17, 1974 (XI. Conference of Delegates) he was a member of the SED district leadership in Schwerin and from February 1974 to April 1976 (XII. Conference of Delegates) and again from 1977 a member of its secretariat. Resch was also a member of the Schwerin District Assembly .
