Kurt Meier (trade unionist)

Kurt Meier (born December 7, 1914 in Wilkau-Haßlau , † January 25, 1985 in Schwerin ) was a German politician ( SED ) and trade unionist ( FDGB ). He was chairman of the FDGB district committee Schwerin .

Life

Meier was born into a working-class family. After attending elementary school , he took up an apprenticeship as a hammer , which he completed in 1929. He then worked in this profession. From 1928 he was a member of the miners 'association and the workers' gymnastics and sports association . From 1935 to 1945 he did military and war service in the Wehrmacht . Meier was taken prisoner by the Soviets in 1945 . He was the chairman of the Antifa committee in the Velikiye Luki camp .

After his return to Germany in 1948, he worked in the Reichsbahnausbesserungswerk (RAW) Zwickau as a rust remover and became a member of the FDGB. In 1950 he joined the SED. From 1950 to 1952 he worked in the RAW “7. October “in Zwickau as second or first chairman of the works union management . From 1952 to April 1982 (10th FDGB Congress) Meier was a member of the FDGB Federal Executive and until November 1963 (6th FDGB Congress) also its executive committee. In addition, from 1952 to November 1963 he was also secretary of the FDGB federal board. 1956/1957 he studied at the party college "Karl Marx" of the SED. He completed his studies with a degree in social science . From 1964 to March 26, 1977 he worked as chairman of the FDGB district executive committee in Schwerin and from 1967 to 1977 he was a member of the secretariat of the SED district leadership in Schwerin. Meier resigned at his own request for health reasons, but remained a member of the FDGB district board. He was a member of the SED district leadership until February 1981 (14th district delegate conference) and most recently lived as a veteran in Schwerin.

Meier died at the age of 70 and was buried in the Schwerin-Krebsförden forest cemetery.
