Horst Weigt

Horst Weigt (born November 29, 1924 in Wittenberge ; † June 22, 1989 ) was a German party functionary . He was first secretary of the Schwerin-Stadt district leadership of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED).

Life

Weigt, son of a Social Democratic worker and a housewife, attended elementary school and from 1939 to 1942 a vocational school . He completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter . In December 1942 he was drafted for military service in the Wehrmacht . In 1943 he was a gunner in an army flak department. In May 1945 he was taken as a corporal in British captivity , from which he was released in August 1945.

From August 1945 Weigt worked as a locksmith in Fallersleben , then from January to July 1946 as a boiler smith in Wittenberge. In early 1946, Weigt joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and in the same year became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). In July 1946 he joined the German People's Police and worked as a police officer until February 1949. From February 1949 to December 1950 Weigt studied at the party college "Karl Marx" . He then acted from January to September 1951 as a training instructor for the state association of the Association of Mutual Farmers Aid (VdgB) Mecklenburg and from September 1951 to September 1952 as director of the state school of the VdgB Mecklenburg in Bad Doberan . From September 1952 to February 1953 he was an instructor for land agitation, then from February to November 1953 initially deputy head and finally from November 1953 to February 1954 head of the agitation and propaganda department of the Rostock district leadership of the SED. From February 1954 to 1962 he then worked as secretary for agitation and propaganda for the SED district leadership in Schwerin .

After studying at the party university at the Central Committee of the CPSU (1962/63) in Moscow , Weigt acted from 1963 to April 1977 as First Secretary of the Schwerin-Stadt district leadership and was also a member of the secretariat of the Schwerin SED district leadership. In April 1977 Weigt was relieved of his functions because of "non-partisan behavior". He then worked as a sector manager in the SED district leadership in Schwerin. Weigt was a member of the Schwerin District Assembly .
