The three-banded anemonefish ( Amphiprion tricinctus ) occurs in the central, tropical Pacific, on the coral reefs of the Marshall Islands , possibly also in New Caledonia in water depths of 3 to 40 meters. As a habitat, it prefers outside and lagoon reefs.

It accepts four symbiotic anemone species as partners.

The three-banded anemonefish becomes ten to 13 centimeters long. The length is 1.7 to 2 times the body height. It is brownish-orange in color, rather dark brown in the rear area of ​​the back, and orange-yellow on the belly. A white horizontal stripe runs directly behind the eye over the head, another extends from the indentation between the spiked and the soft-rayed part of the dorsal fin to in front of the anal fin . A third transverse ligament, which is not present in all specimens, extends over the tail fin stalk. The pelvic fins are orange, the caudal fin is transparent.

The dorsal fin has ten to eleven hard and 15 to 17 soft rays, the anal fin has two hard and 13 to 14 soft rays. The pectoral fins are supported by 18 to 21 rays. On the first gill arch there are 19 to 22 gill trap processes. The sideline is accompanied by 38 to 43 scales.
