The three-leaved gold thread ( Coptis trifolia ) is a species of the genus Coptis in the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae).
features
The striped fern leaf gold thread is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of up to 10 centimeters. It forms a light yellow to orange rhizome . The leaves are threefold. The leaflets are sessile or with short stalk and weakly lobed or unlobed. The inflorescence is single-flowered. The bracts are white. The nectar leaves are spoon-shaped and yellow. The styles are probably 2 to 4 millimeters long at the fruiting time. The follicles have no longitudinal nerve on either side.
The flowering period extends from May to June.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.
Occurrence
The species occurs in warm temperate to cool North America, in the Far East and in Eastern Siberia. It grows in moist forests, tundras and swamps at altitudes from 0 to 1500 meters.

The three-leaved gold thread is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens, bog beds, groups of trees and as a ground cover. It has been in culture since at least 1782.
