Trinity Church

The Trinity Church in Luxembourg City has been used for Protestant worship since 1817.

history

Friedrich von Meysenburg had a first chapel built on this site in 1333 . In 1628 the church and the monastery that had been built for it came into the possession of the Augustinian choir women BMV. After the bombing by the troops of Louis XIV, the Archbishop of Trier had it rebuilt in 1730 based on the model of St. Paulin in Trier . Thus the Trinity Church will be the first large baroque building in Luxembourg City.

After the Congress of Vienna in 1817, the church went to the Prussian garrison , which held Protestant services there. In 1890 the evangelical dynasty Nassau-Weilburg took over the Luxembourg throne and the Trinity Church became their court church. Grand Duke Adolph I founded the United Evangelical Church of the Grand Duchy by decree in 1894. Since then, the Trinity Church has been the preaching place of this United State Church.
