Location of Dreihof in Rhineland-Palatinate

Dreihof is a hamlet that belongs to the local community Essingen in the district of Südliche Weinstraße in Rhineland-Palatinate .

location

The Dreihof is located in the southeast of the Essingen district, around three kilometers away from the rest of the settlement area of the community on the edge of a foothill of the Bellheimer Forest . The Bornheim industrial park joins it one kilometer to the west-southwest.

history

In 1928 the Dreihof had 61 residents who lived in five residential buildings. The Protestants then belonged to the parish of Essingen, while the Catholics belonged to that of Oberhochstadt . From 1939, the farmer and politician Oskar Stübinger managed the Dreihof.

Transport and infrastructure

The Dreihof station was on the Germersheim – Landau railway line . Since it had extensive freight traffic, it was given a reception building with an attached goods handling facility . However, the structure itself was destroyed in World War II. In the first decades, the train station served as a common train station for Bornheim , Essingen and Offenbach an der Queich . After the latter had its own station on the Landau – Herxheim railway line opened in 1898 , it lost its importance. Due to low usage, it was abandoned in 1981, three years before passenger traffic was discontinued.

Furthermore, there is a riding arena, a sports field, a golf course and a lake in the immediate vicinity. Two courtyards on site are also under monument protection .
