Location of Drievorden in Lower Saxony

Drievorden is a place in the Grafschaft Bentheim district and lies between Emsbüren (7 km) and Schüttorf (7 km) on the Vechte River . Drievorden and Engden form the municipality since 1974 Engden , which in turn to the joint community Schüttorf belongs.

religion

Until 1767 Drievorden was a peasantry in the parish of Emsbüren. The place Emsbüren then belonged to the Principality of Münster , while Drievorden belonged to the County of Bentheim . As a result, Drievorden - like Engden - remained predominantly Catholic, whereas the county of Bentheim was largely reformed.

Culture

Even today Drievorden is strongly oriented towards agriculture. The annual major event in the village is the shooting festival of the St. Hubertus shooting club. It takes place in the restored old school.

history

Name derivation

Drievorden also Drievörden (old: Drieburi , around 1188 Drighvorden ) is assigned to the Bursibant according to the Werden Heberegister . The defining word of the old name is derived from the number three (old: dri ). Similar to Emsbüren, the basic word stands for Niederdtsch. - büren, -bur (en) , synonymous with "small house", "apartment", "courtyard". The more recent name Drievorden is intended to designate three fords or possibly Low German Drief-Ort . The latter would then indicate a gathering point for the Bentheim tithe cattle. However, this assumption is not certain.

Incorporation

On March 1, 1974, Drievorden was incorporated into the municipality of Engden.
