The Driftwood River (English for "driftwood river") is a left tributary of the Lesser Slave River in the Canadian province of Alberta .
River course
The Driftwood River rises 45 km north-northeast of Slave Lake at an altitude of about 890 m . It flows in a predominantly southerly direction through the boreal forest landscape of central Alberta. He forms a strong mändrierendes behavior with numerous meanders and oxbow lakes from. About 2.5 km above the mouth, the Fawcett River meets the Driftwood River from the left. The Township Road 724A , which runs along the north bank of the Lesser Slave River, crosses the Driftwood River 900 m above the mouth thereof. The mouth of the Driftwood River is 21 miles east of Slave Lake.
Hydrology
The Driftwood River drains an area of 2100 km². The mean discharge at the gauge 900 m above the mouth is 6.64 m³ / s. The river carries the largest amounts of water during the snowmelt from May to July.
