Driva in Oppdal

The Driva is a 135 km long Norwegian river in Trøndelag and Møre og Romsdal .

The Driva has its origin in the Dovrefjell . From there it flows in a northerly direction through the Drivdal to Oppdal . There the river turns to the west. In the lower reaches it flows through the Sunndal and finally reaches the Sunndalsfjord , the southeastern end of the Tingvollfjord , into which it joins at Sunndalsøra .

The catchment area of the Driva covers 2493 km². Its main tributaries are Åmotselva, Vinstra, Ålma, Dørreselva, Festa, Dindøla, Vindøla, Grøvu and Grøa .

The Driva kraftverk hydropower plant is located on the river in the municipality of Sunndal in Sunndal. It was completed in 1973 and has an installed capacity of 71 MW. The associated reservoir is the regulated lake Gjevillvatnet to the north .

The Driva used to be a well-known salmon river . The salmon population was severely decimated by the infestation of the fish with the ectoparasite Gyrodactylus salaris . Efforts are being made to get the fish stocks free of parasites again.
