Drosera brevifolia ( Syn .: Drosera annua , Drosera leucantha ) is a carnivorous plant from the genus sundew ( Drosera ) in the family of sundew plants (Droseraceae).

description

Drosera brevifolia is an annual herbaceous plant that forms a native rosette. Their leaves are sessile and wedge-shaped. The flower shaft is rather unusually short for carnivorous plants (max. 15 cm). This bears up to 4 small white or pink flowers in spring.

The plant specializes in wetlands , which dry out completely in the hot summer months. Through self-fertilization, it partially sets seeds in the unopened flower. After the seeds ripen, Drosera brevifolia dries up and dies. However, the seeds germinate again with the first rains, which start in autumn.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.

distribution

Drosera brevifolia lives in damp locations such as moors and swamps . They are found in North America from Texas to Florida and north to Virginia . B ARTHLOTT et al. (2004) also extend the range to Cuba , Mexico , Belize , Brazil and Uruguay .
