Druzhba (Dagestan, Buinaksk)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Druzhba ( Russian Дру́жба ; translated "friendship") was a place on the territory of today's Republic of Dagestan in Russia. It was in the area of today's Buinakski Rajon and should not be confused with the village of the same name in the Kajakentski rajon ; During the time of its existence, however, the place was subordinate to the city soviet of Kisiljurt .

Druzhba was built in the early 1960s almost 50 kilometers south of the Kisiljurt railway station in connection with the construction of the Tschirkei dam , the largest in the North Caucasus , on the Sulak river . In 1964 it received urban-type settlement status and in 1970 it had 7,999 inhabitants. With the completion of the dam, Druzhba was flooded and abandoned by the filling reservoir from 1974. The residents were relocated to the Dubki settlement, which was just six kilometers north of the dam and a few hundred meters above sea level from 1972 .
