Jalaluddin Haqqani

Jalaluddin Haqqani ( Pashtun جلال الدين حقاني DMG Ǧalāl ud-Dīn Ḥaqqānī ; Persian جلال‌الدین حقانی; born 1939 ; died September 3, 2018 ) was an Afghan Islamist and the leader of the Haqqani network .

Life

He was a Pashtun , active in the armed struggle in the early 1970s, was received by Ronald Reagan and later had close ties with both al-Qaeda and Pakistan's secret service . He was Justice Minister of the Islamic State of Afghanistan , which officially existed from 1992 to 2001, and is said to have been the second most important figure in the Taliban after Mohammed Omar .

In September 2018, his family confirmed his death to journalists after a prolonged, unspecified illness. He is said to have been succeeded by his son Siradschuddin Haqqani .
