Walter Dubislav

Walter Dubislav (born September 20, 1895 in Berlin , †  September 17, 1937 in Prague ) was a German scientific theorist .

Life

After studying mathematics (u. A. With David Hilbert ) and the philosophy Dubislav was in Berlin with a thesis in 1922 contributions to the study of the definition and the evidence from the standpoint of mathematical logic doctorate . In 1928 he became a private lecturer in philosophy, mathematics and natural sciences at the TU Berlin and from 1931 an associate professor . In 1936 he emigrated to Prague.

He was a co-founder of the Berlin Society for Empirical Philosophy and was friends with Theodor W. Adorno .

Dubislav endeavored to establish a logical and epistemological foundation for mathematics and physics , based on Bernard Bolzano . Dubislav represents a formalistic version of Frege's theory of definition . Definitions are therefore substitution rules for characters, i.e. H. arbitrary agreements on the use of characters within a calculus .
