Dudo (Laurenburg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dudo von Laurenburg († before 1124 ) was probably Count von Laurenburg and is considered the actual progenitor of the Nassau family .

Life

Laurenburg Castle

Dudo was probably a son of Ruprecht von Laurenburg , the archbishop's bailiff in Siegerland . Presumably they are the descendants of the Lords of Lipporn , who were named as owners of parts of the Lipporn-Laurenburg heritage in a document from the Prüm Abbey in 881 . Around 950 the Lords of Lipporn received the Esterau from Duke Herrmann von Schwaben , in 991 a Drutwin was named as Count of the Königssondergau east of Wiesbaden.

Dudo is mentioned as Tuto de Lurinburg between 1093 and 1117 . In a document from 1134 (after his death) he is mentioned as Count von Laurenburg. He built Laurenburg Castle around 1090 . He founded the monastery in Lipporn. From the diocese of Worms he took the area around Nassau ad Lahn as a fief, where he and his sons later built Nassau Castle as the family seat of the House of Nassau. Dudo was named as Vogt in Siegerland in 1117. Around 1122 he took the rule of Idstein as a fief from the archbishops of Mainz .

progeny

Dudo married the fourth of the seven daughters of Count Ludwig I von Arnstein , possibly her name was Irmgardis or Demudis. With her he had the children:

  1. Ruprecht I († before May 13, 1154), mentioned as Count von Laurenburg 1124–1152.
  2. Arnold I († before 1154), mentioned as Count von Laurenburg 1124–1148.
  3. Demudis, ⚭ Emich Graf von Diez († after 1133).
