location

The scented forest is located behind the Seehof sanatorium, at the north-western exit of the city of Bad Kissingen and the Garitz district , a little above the federal road 286 in the direction of Oberthulba and the A 7 motorway

description

The one-hectare scented forest with a total of around 4,000 forest trees and shrubs was created on the occasion of the 1200th anniversary of the spa town of Bad Kissingen in 2001 by Karl-Heinz Knörr , who was head of the State Forestry Office in Bad Kissingen until the official dissolution. He planted around 50 different types of fragrant forest trees and bushes on a fallow field.

In the area prepared for visitors, you can not only look at the trees in the forest, but also experience them with your sense of smell . The walker can smell the scents of flowers, leaves and needles, of bark and resin . Depending on the season, he perceives, for example, the smells of lilac and olive willow , of barberry and manna ash , of Bodnant snowball and broom , of spice bushes or even of the Japanese cake tree (katsura tree), which only smells its typical gingerbread in autumn Leaf fall unfolded. Witch hazel and cinnamon-raspberry start in February / March.

A display board at the entrance to the Bad Kissingen Scented Forest shows all the tree and shrub species present with a detailed map. Pin boards on the individual trees or bushes explain the respective plant to the visitor. A circular route is barrier-free . The fragrance forest is not cordoned off and can be visited free of charge at any time.
