Duh is the debut album by the Californian punk rock band Lagwagon . It was released on October 1, 1992 as the first album on Fat Wreck Chords .

Cover

The cover shows a stocky boy in blue. He is seated in a large purple armchair, staring at the television with his mouth open and his eyes rolled in spirals (used in comics to suggest hypnosis ). In his hand he is holding a can of beverage with the ending "-ke" (perhaps "Coke" ) on it. At the top of the cover is the self-drawn band name in capital letters. On the back you can see the track list and next to it a black and white photo of the band members sitting on the curb next to a large, wide car (probably the vehicle on which the band name is based).

album

The 2-song EP Tragic Vision / Angry Days was released in advance, which contains the first recorded songs by Duh and the Fat Wreck Chords say that they do not even have a recording of them themselves.

Duh is the first album to be released on the label of Fat Mike , singer of the band NOFX , Fat Wreck Chords . The album was recorded and mixed by Fat Mike in three days at West Beach Studio in Hollywood. To date, every Lagwagon album has been released on Fat Wreck Chords.

Most of the songs have a fast skate punk rhythm that is typical of Lagwagon . An exception is, for example, the song Bad Moon Rising (a cover by the band Creedence Clearwater Revival ) in which elements of country and a very fast skate punk mix. Also includes a cover of the theme song from the popular Inspector Gadget cartoon series .

From Duh a limited edition of only 524 pieces released on colored vinyl .

reception

Mike DaRonco from Allmusic awards four out of five stars. He considers the compositions to be lyrically and structurally too ripe for a NOFX clone ("Lyrically and structurally, the songwriting has more of a mature edge") and classifies Duh as an early work by the band, which points to the following works (" it is a hint of better things to come ").
