Duiliu Zamfirescu

Duiliu Zamfirescu (born October 30, 1858 in Plăineşti , today Dumbrăveni , Vrancea County ; † June 3, 1922 , Agapia , Neamț County ) was a Romanian politician, diplomat, lawyer, writer and Vice President of the Romanian Academy . In March 1920 he became Romanian Foreign Minister .

Life

After attending primary and secondary school in Focşani , he went to the Matei Basarab School in Bucharest . He then studied law. After his diploma in 1880, Zamfirescu took over a magistrate in Hârşova and later in Târgovişte . Zamfirescu also worked as a writer. He wrote poetry, short stories and plays. With his most important work, the five-part cycle Romanul Comăneștenilor (1894-1910), he designed the first major epic portrait of Romanian society. He then worked as a diplomat in Rome until 1906 . In 1920 Zamfirescu became Romanian Foreign Minister . He died in Agapia that same year.
