Duman is an alternative Turkish rock band.

history

founding

In the early 1990s , 'Kaan Tangöze ( vocals ) and Ari Barokas ( electric bass ) founded the rock band Mad Madame . A short time later Kaan Tangöze traveled to Seattle to study there. During his stay he wrote pieces for an album that he wanted to record in Turkey. Out of longing, all the pieces were in Turkish. After his return, the two musicians formed the group Duman together with Batuhan Mutlugil ( guitar ) .

Beginnings

With their first album Eski Köprünün Altında (German: Under the old bridge) Duman became very successful. After initially changing drummers , Alen Konakoğlu, who was very successful in Turkey, played with the band more and more often and became the fourth member of the group after the second album Belki Alışman Lazım (German: Maybe you have to get used to it).

development

The second album became more melancholy and serious than the first album. The song Masal (German: fairy tale) thematized the hanging of Adnan Menderes and Deniz Gezmiş . Another song on the album is the cover version of the Sezen Aksu classic Her Şeyi Yak (German: Burn everything). In 2003 the live album Konser (German: Concert) was released, which contains not only its own pieces but also cover versions of well-known Turkish folk songs. The concert DVD Bu Akşam (German: Tonight), released in 2004, was the first music DVD in Turkey. In addition to music videos and photos, this DVD contains one of Duman's most famous concerts, which took place on October 4th, 2003 in Istanbul . A year later, the third album Seni Kendime Sakladım , which u. a. contains the song Özgürlüğün Ülkesi (German: Land of Freedom), which criticizes the Americans' Iraq war with hard punk rock . In Fatih Akıns documentary Crossing the Bridge - The Sound of Istanbul from 2005 Duman were among the protagonists. In 2008 a best-of album with the title En Güzel Günüm Gecem 1999–2006 (German: My most beautiful day [is] my night) was released. In the same year another live album called Rock'n Coke Konseri came out, which includes the recording of the performance at the music festival Rock'n Coke , which took place in September 2006 in Istanbul. In March 2009 Duman released their fourth studio album, which is a double album and is entitled Duman I and Duman II .

The band gained further fame after they - on the occasion of the protests in Istanbul on June 1, 2013 - released the song Eyvallah to draw attention to the great suffering.
