Dumitru (Take) Macri (born April 28, 1931 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player and coach . The defender played a total of 221 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A .

Career as a player

Macri began playing football in his hometown of Bucharest at Flacăra Roşie Bucharest and moved to Locomotiva Bucharest (later Rapid Bucharest ) before the start of the 1950 season , where he made his debut in the Romanian top division on March 19, 1950. He stayed with the club for fifteen years until the end of his active career in 1965. During this time he was unable to win any titles, but took second place in Divizia A three times . In 1951 and 1954 he had to relegate with the club, but both times managed to return immediately.

Macri is the first Romanian football player ever to be nominated for the Ballon d'Or (1961).

National team

Dumitru Macri played ten games for the Romanian national football team between 1958 and 1962 , but scored no goal. He made his debut on October 26, 1958 against Hungary .

Career as a coach

After the end of his active career, Macri worked as a football coach. He was in charge of CFR Timişoara , Rapid Bucharest and FC Olt Scorniceşti each for a few months in Divizia A , with all clubs being in relegation battle. After that he worked as a coach in Algeria for a while, also for the national team .

Private

Macri, born to a Greek father and a Romanian, left Romania in 1986 and lives alternately in Paris, France (where his son works as an architect) and Volos, Greece.
