Duncan McTier

Duncan McTier (* 1954 in Worcestershire ) is a British double bass player and music teacher .

Live and act

Duncan McTier studied mathematics at the University of Bristol and then played as a double bass player in the BBC Symphony Orchestra and as a solo bassist in the Dutch Chamber Orchestra. He was a prizewinner at the Isle of Man International Double Bass Competition in 1982 , and has since concentrated on his solo career and has performed as a soloist in more than 20 countries with major orchestras.

Until 2014 he was professor of double bass at the Royal Academy of Music in London and has also taught as a professor at the Zurich University of the Arts and since 2007 in Madrid at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía. He also holds masterclasses around the world, including summer courses at the Académie de Musique de Sion .

Composers such as Sir Peter Maxwell Davies , Robin Holloway , John Casken , John Hawkins and Gavin Bryars wrote compositions for him and he has released more than 50 sound recordings for radio, television and record companies.
