Duncans is a country town in northern Jamaica . The city is located in County Cornwall in the Parish Trelawny . In 2010, Duncans had a population of 1,820 people.

ethnology

The city was named Duncans in 1784. It was named after Peter Duncans, the former owner of the land on which the place is built.

geography

Duncans is located on a range of hills about 2 kilometers south of the coast and the bay of the same name, Duncan Bay . The average altitude of the place is 140 meters above sea level. The difference in altitude is around 100 meters. In the immediate vicinity are the two villages Carey Park at a height of 110 meters and Johnston Pen at a height of 75 meters to the west . The region is heavily forested up to the coast, but most of the land in the south of the town has been cultivated. On the coast, in Duncans Bay, is the fishing village of Sands Bay . The range of hills rises from the coast to 278 meters above sea level.

Infrastructure

Duncans is on the A1 freeway, which runs east-west. The higher freeway separates the village from the fishing village of Sands Bay, which is located on Duncan Bay. The settlements are connected by underpasses.

From the A1 freeway, the B10 freeway branches off in a northerly direction, which begins in Duncans and leads via Falmouth to Montego Bay .

economy

The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture and tourism. There are several hotels and holiday apartments in the village.
