Dunkelschön is a German medieval band founded in 2002 with folk influences.
Band history
In 2002 Michael Kaiser and Vanessa Istvan founded the studio project "Dunkelschön". In 2004 Michael Kaiser ( guitar , harp , hurdy-gurdy , nyckelharpa , vocals) and Vanessa Istvan (main vocals, various flutes) formed the band of the same name, which was led by the musicians Christian Wittkopf ( Davul , percussion ) and Björn Scheuplein (guitar, cister , viola da gamba ) has been added. First appearances with the existing song material followed.
In 2006 the group produced their first studio album, Torenvart.
In addition to numerous appearances at festivals such as the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig, the band released the second studio album called Irfind in 2007 , which was named album of the month in Zillo magazine .
Her third studio album, Nemeton , was released in 2008 and was recorded with the cellist Monika Klüpfel, who has been a permanent member of the band ever since.
In 2009 Nicolas von Stolzmann replaced the guitarist Björn Scheuplein, who had just left. At the same time, Dunkelschön decided to add drums to their music and André Straub joined the band. With this line-up, Dunkelschön released the fourth studio album Katharsis .
Another new addition was bass player Bernie Horn in April 2010.
After their winter tour together with Subway to Sally and further appearances at festivals both in Germany (such as Feuertanz-Festival , Burgfolk ) and in other European countries (e.g. " Castlefest " / Netherlands, Trolls et Legendes / Belgium, Festa Celtica di Beltane / Italy) introduced the band in 2011 their fifth studio album magic word finished, the one compositional further or Umentwicklung represented with more rock elements of the band.
André Straub and Nicolas von Stolzmann left the band at the end of 2012.
Lukas Stumpf (drums) and Jan Jansohn (guitar, Irish bouzouki ) were recruited for the 2013 festival season . Stumpf was replaced by Manuel Völk at the end of 2013. Bernie Schmee also joined the band and took over the position of guitar and Irish bouzouki.
With this line-up (Michael Kaiser, Vanessa Istvan, Christian Wittkopf, Monika Klüpfel, Bernie Horn, Bernie Schmee, Manuel Völk) the septet recorded their sixth studio album Vergehen & Werden , which was released in spring 2014 for the band's tenth anniversary. With this album, Dunkelschön presented itself at the Feuertal Festival and the world's largest metal festival Wacken Open Air .
