Darkfall

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dunkelschlag is a mixed beech forest in Sterkrade , a district of Oberhausen . On the southwestern edge of the Dunkelschlag lies the former coal mining settlement Siedlung Dunkelschlag .

The dark fall is also referred to as the Sterkrad Forest on maps . Both names are used equally for the high forest that extends along the Handbach .

The dark heap is 204 hectares. It includes an 81 hectare nature reserve . The forest is characterized by its more than 150 year old beech stands . There are also stocks of hornbeam , red oak , alder , sycamore maple and Scots pine . The main reasons for the designation of the nature reserve are the peat moss-alder quarry forest and the marl pits.

history

On February 22, 1670 a contract was signed with which Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg acquired the Weierheide, the Hochwald Dunkelschlag and part of the Sterkrader Heide. The motivation was the desire of the sovereign to administer this area according to forestry principles. In 1833 there was keen interest in dividing the Mark Brandenburg. After long negotiations, the Dunkelschlag and other parts of the Sterkrader Mark went into private ownership. As a result of this decision there was a change in the economy, the large pastures for the sheep were rededicated. Another hundred years later, the city of Oberhausen managed to acquire the Sterkrader Wald through an exchange deal. Since then, the Dunkelschlag has been owned by the city, which is managed by the Oberhausen facility management .

Natural monuments

In the regulatory ordinance for the protection of natural monuments in the city of Oberhausen of May 3, 1999, three natural monuments were listed in the area of Dunkelschlag, which were deleted from the list of the ordinance for the protection of natural monuments in the Oberhausen district of March 16, 1965 due to their departure . These were a red beech on the northern edge of the Bürgermeisterplatz (near the Bürgermeisterplatz there is a beech that is marked with a sign as a natural monument, this may be identical to it), the painting oak and a group of beeches called "12 apostles". In the north of the dark, near the Handbach, there is an old thing- beech, which is designated as a natural monument, but is not listed in the above-mentioned regulation from 1999.
