The Handbach is a right tributary of the Emscher . Its course with a length of 5.41 km and its catchment area of ​​a good 23.5 km² are located in the Oberhausen district of Sterkrade .

Location and description

The Handbach rises in the northwest of the Königshardt district . It flows in a southwesterly direction through the first Sterkrader forest, partly of course, meandering , partly straightened and is thereby the motorway intersection Oberhausen north of the A 3 passed. On its further way it touches the southern edge of the Schmachtendorf district before it is piped at the level of the forester's house Handbeck and passed under the Oberhausen – Arnhem railway line . After about 500 meters underground course he comes now to the south flowing, between the commercial area forest pond and the motorway A 2 to the surface again. It now follows the course of the motorway in a canalised manner for over a kilometer, before it flows into the Emscher at Biefang near the Oberhausen-Holten junction. Around 200 meters from its mouth, it takes in the Sterkrad main canal .
