Waldteich is a district of Oberhausen and the district of Sterkrade , which had around 500 inhabitants at the end of 2012 and covers an area of 101 ha. Waldteich is almost without exception in the area of the former Hugo Haniel colliery and is now statistically counted as part of the Holten / Barmingholten social area . In 1917, Waldteich was incorporated together with Schmachtendorf , Walsumermark and parts of Barmingholten from Hiesfeld to Sterkrade. The district has an almost square shape. It is reached in the northeast by the Oberhausen-Arnheim railway line (Schmachtendorf), in the southeast by the A3 motorway ( Weierheide ), in the southwest by Weißensteinstrasse, which separates Waldteich from the Oxea GmbH site of the Ruhrchemie plant, and the Holzstrasse and Bahnstrasse (Holten ) limited to the northwest.

Infrastructure

Waldteich largely consists of an industrial area. The ThyssenKrupp Materials GmbH was planning a logistics center in the area. Numerous citizens and residents turned against this. Due to the global economic crisis, the project was initially postponed and then finally abandoned in August 2016. Only on the edges (Bahnstrasse and Weseler Strasse) are there a few residential buildings. Thanks to its proximity to the Oberhausen-Holten motorway exit on the A3 , the district is well connected to the transport network. Waldteich is integrated into the local transport network with the bus lines SB90, 918, 954, 955, 957 and 960 of the Rhein-Ruhr transport association. In addition, there is a feasibility study to connect the industrial park directly to the motorway network. Since the OB-Holten train station borders the northernmost tip of the forest pond, the district has a connection to the regional express lines RE5 and RE19 as well as the regional trains 33 and 35.
