Schlad is the name of an Oberhausen district in the south-east of the Alt-Oberhausen district .

overview

The statistical district of Schlad had 10,093 inhabitants on December 31, 2018. The area borders on Mülheim an der Ruhr in the southeast . In the south-west it meets the Dümpten district , while the northern border, which is formed by Falkensteinstraße leading to Essen, and the eastern border by Mellinghofer Straße are relatively arbitrary dividing lines. The district of the same name in the Oberhausen-Ost social area also includes the suburbs south of Nathlandstrasse and east of Mellinghofer Strasse, which are statistically assigned to Bermensfeld . When looking at the history of the former municipality of Dümpten , however, it is noticeable that old Dümpten districts are listed under "Schlad", while the actual core area of the Schladviertel is between Falkensteinstraße in the north, Mellinghofer Straße in the east and Wehrstraße in the south and Seilerstrasse in the west, which roughly coincides with the city's municipal electoral district of the same name .

Niederrhein College

The district, which was characterized by heathland and individual farms until the 19th century , now functions primarily as a residential area, with the residential development, which is more closed in the west, loosing up to the east towards the outskirts. Taking into account the infrastructure, the most important point of the Schlad, which has not grown historically, can be seen as the Wehrplatz, where, among other things, the 124 bus line to Mülheim has a terminus. The district is also integrated into the urban transport network by bus routes 953, 956, 960, 961 and 976 of the Rhein-Ruhr transport association . The Niederrhein-Kolleg is located on Wehrstrasse. It was founded in 1953 as the "Oberhausen Institute for University Entrance Qualification" and was the first of its kind in North Rhine-Westphalia at the time. The New Basket '92 Oberhausen (NBO) club, whose first team played in the first women's basketball league from 2002 to 2016, is based in the Ost sports hall on Hunsrückstrasse .
