Königshardt is a northern part of Oberhausen in North Rhine-Westphalia . It belongs to the district of Sterkrade and has 7,482 inhabitants on an area of 6.66 km². It borders in the north on the Walsumermark , in the east on Bottrop , in the south on the A 2 motorway , which separates Königshardt from Alsfeld , Sterkrade and Tackenberg and in the west on Schmachtendorf .

history

In 1776 eight originally Palatinate families, who are considered the founding families, settled in the area of today's Königshardt. The immigrants originally called their new settlement "Isselhardt" in memory of a longer stopover on the left Lower Rhine. The originally common name "Isselhardt" was gradually replaced by the name "Königshardt". It is assumed that the new name was coined and used by the residents out of gratitude to the Prussian King Friedrich II , who had offered the "Hardt" for settlement. It is difficult to classify it in time, but there is much to suggest that the name caught on towards the end of this century. It was first mentioned in a church register in 1806; It is documented for the first time in 1825. It is astonishing that, despite the adverse living conditions, the Palatinate colony of Königshardt grew to the same extent as the surrounding villages. In 80 years the population had increased a little more than sixfold. In 1880, 447 people lived on the Königshardt. The barren soil brought only low crop yields (mainly grain); the livestock population was still very small, as the small farmers could not afford to buy them. The broom making , whose products found good sales in steelworks and foundries , and the sale of moss to ship owners in Ruhrort , who urgently needed the raw material to seal their ships, served as sources of income . Most of the family fathers hired themselves as day laborers for a low wage with an average working day of eleven hours. In 1803 the first school, the Königshardter School, was inaugurated. The first church was handed over to its destination in 1872, the Evangelical Church of Königshardt on Buchenweg. The originally badly clouded relationship between the Königshardt settlers and the municipality of Sterkrade only improved from 1886, when Sterkrade became an independent mayor together with Königshardt. With the rise to an independent mayor's office , Königshardt became an integral part of Sterkrades. A definitive integration took place in 1913, when Sterkrade - again with Königshardt - received city rights from the Prussian state parliament . In 1929 Königshardt was incorporated into Oberhausen together with Sterkrade .

Blazon : “Split in black and silver (white) surrounded by a golden (yellow) border with the text" KÖNIGSHARDT 1776 "in the shield head; in front a silver (white) cross; in the back above a black pestle hoe, which is slanted to the left, three black birds flying in stakes. ”Meaning: The cross stands as a symbol of the Christian faith, the three birds represent Krammetsvögel that were earlier caught on the Königshardt and sold to eateries. Plaggen (pieces of sward) were cut with the pestle hoe, which were used for fertilization and as fuel and also served as building material in the first settlers' years (hence the name "plague huts"). 1776 is the founding date of Königshardt (settlement of eight Palatinate families ).
