Alsfeld (Oberhausen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alsfeld is part of the Sterkrade district , which belongs to the city of Oberhausen . At the end of 2016, the district had 12,866 inhabitants on an area of around 4.34 km². It is bounded in the north by the A2 motorway , which separates Königshardt from Alsfeld, in the east by Tackenberg , in the south by Sterkrade-Mitte and in the west by the Weierheide . The A516 motorway practically divides the district in the middle from northwest to southeast.

history

Franconian fortified farmers settled on Alsbach around the year 600 AD . Grave finds from 1921 and 1930 show a local Franconian settlement from the sixth to the middle of the eighth century. Individual farms are only proven in the 15th century. The best known is the Köpershof not far from the Alsbach on Mathildestrasse.

The turn from the 19th to the 20th century was marked by the constant growth of the mining and metallurgical industry, supplemented by mechanical and plant engineering. With the start of coal mining at the Hugo and Sterkrade collieries , the industry faced the problem of accommodating a steadily growing number of workers and their families.

So in 1904, built by Gutehoffnungshütte , the settlement on Dunkelschlag , also known as the "colony", was created. The rest of Alsfeld also lost its originally agricultural character more and more due to increasing settlement density. Alsfeld was never an independent municipality, but has belonged to the municipality since Sterkrade was founded and later from 1913 to the city.

Infrastructure

Today Alsfeld is predominantly characterized by residential areas surrounded by greenery. Recreation and recreational activities are very important, as demonstrated by numerous cycling and hiking trails (e.g. in the Alsbachtal), the Sterkrade park, as well as the Alsfeld district sports facility and the Sterkrade stadium. The municipal outdoor pool "Alsbachtal" was closed in 2009. The district is well connected to the transport network via the Oberhausen-Sterkrade train station on the Oberhausen-Arnheim route and the Oberhausen-Sterkrade motorway exit on the A516 .
