Dunlossite House

Dunlossit House is a mansion on the east coast of the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . It is isolated in the midst of the surrounding lands south of the Port Askaig ferry terminal and overlooks Islay Sound . It can be reached via a junction from the A846 between Keills and Port Askaig. On August 28, 1980, Dunlossite House was entered on the Scottish List of Monuments in Category C.

Dunlossite House was built in 1865 for Kirkman Finlay of Dunlossite . At that time, he owned land with an area of ​​17,676  acres (about 71.5 km 2 ) on Islay. The Dunlossite Memorial Cross is also located on the grounds of Dunlossit House .

Dunlossit House consists of different parts of the building that were built using a closed construction method. The different wings are either two- or three-story. The natural stone masonry consists of a layer of masonry made of cut quarry stone. All wings end with slate-covered gable roofs and some have stepped gables . Decorative corner turrets with slate-covered conical roofs extend from numerous building edges . Dunlossit House has a small keep .
