Dunois (Orléanais)
The Dunois is a historic region in the west of the French region of Beauce , which extends from Châteaudun ( Eure-et-Loir department ) to the north of the Loir-et-Cher department .
The region corresponds to the old pagus Dunensis and was part of the Orléanais province until 1789 ; it was to the west of the Orleanais proper and to the south-west of the Beauce. The largest cities of the Dunois are Châteaudun, Fréteval , Cloyes-sur-le-Loir , Bonneval , Patay and Marchenoir .
The vice-county of Dunois, hereditary in the 10th century, was sold to the Count of Blois in 1382 and acquired with Blois in 1391 by Louis de Valois, duc d'Orléans . His son Charles de Valois, duc d'Orléans gave the region to his half-brother Jean, Bastard of Orléans, who has called himself Jean de Dunois since then . In 1707 the Dunois fell back to the crown.
