A durag , also doo-rag or do-rag , is a headscarf of African origin that is tied at the back of the neck.
It originally came up to protect the hairstyle while sleeping. It's been part of Afro-American youth culture since the 1970s . The Durag was made popular in particular by hip-hop artists such as LL Cool J , Ja Rule , 50 Cent and Nelly , and in German hip-hop by the rapper Sido (under his mask at the time).
