DyStar is a global supplier of dyes, chemicals and services for the textile and leather industry , headquartered in Singapore . In recent years, the range of products and services has been expanded to include other industries (paper, plastics and other areas of application for specialty chemicals).

history

The company was formed in 1995 as a joint venture of Bayer AG and Hoechst AG . In 2000, BASF's textile dyes business was also integrated. Earlier acquisitions and joint ventures by the parent companies also made the textile dye businesses of Mitsubishi , Mitsui and Zeneca (formerly ICI ) part of the DyStar Group.

In 2004, the three chemical companies sold their shares to the American private equity investor Platinum Equity . In the following years there were several small acquisitions , especially in the area of textile auxiliaries (e.g. Böhme Chemie ).

The German companies of DyStar (DyStar Textilfarben GmbH & Co. Deutschland KG, DyStar Textilfarben GmbH and DyStar Holding GmbH) filed for insolvency proceedings on September 28, 2009 at the Frankfurt District Court , which opened on December 1, 2009. On December 11th, 2009 the acquisition of the DyStar business by the Indian dye and chemical producer Kiri Industries Ltd. announced. With financial support from the Chinese Zhejiang Longsheng Group (Lonsen), the newly founded companies DyStar Colors Deutschland GmbH and DyStar Colors Distribution GmbH were able to acquire essential assets ( trademark rights , patents , software , technical systems and machines, subsidiaries , receivables ) of the two insolvent DyStar Companies to start operations on February 4, 2010. The new owners pursued the strategy of increasingly relocating production to Asian locations in India and China and largely discontinuing production at the German locations. The dye factories at the Leverkusen site were closed in the following years and the production facility in Brunsbüttel was sold to Chemie GmbH Bitterfeld Wolfen (CBW) in November 2010. Until the final closure of the Brunsbüttel paint company in March 2015, it continued to operate as Chemische Fabrik Brunsbüttel GmbH (CFB).

In May 2011, Lonsen took over the majority stake and thus control of the DyStar Group by converting its convertible bonds into company shares.

Locations

The company's headquarters are in Singapore. Subsidiaries exist in all major markets and the company has its own agencies in around 50 countries. DyStar operates 17 production facilities in 12 countries. In Germany, the main location is in Raunheim and two other locations in Cologne and Ludwigshafen am Rhein .

Products

The company's main products are dyes (such as reactive dyes and indigo ), auxiliaries and services for the textile and leather processing industries.
