Dynasty Warriors (computer game)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dynasty Warriors (Japanese: 三國 無双 Sangokumusō ) is a computer game by the Japanese developer studio Omega Force for the PlayStation game console and the first part of the series of the same name . Unlike the following games, the first part is a fighting game . It was published by the Japanese publisher Koei in 1997.

Gameplay

Combat system

As usual in other games of the genre, the fighters fight individually. The first part differs from the later games in the series, in which the characters are divided into factions. The battles in Dynasty Warriors are, similar to Namco's Soul series , fought with weapons, but are more realistic. Kicks and punches are not included in the repertoire. The gameplay requires quick reactions and precise timing. The aim of the player is to parry the enemy attacks in order to counter the subsequently vulnerable opponent with a counter attack. The fights are fought in arenas at different times of the day (morning, afternoon, evening).

Characters

The game includes 16 historical characters, mostly from the Three Kingdoms period in China; only the characters Nobunaga and Toukichi come from the Sengoku period of Japan. Six characters are initially hidden and must first be unlocked.

Naming

In Japan, the game originally appeared under the title Sangokumusō . The successor was published in Japan, however, under the title Shin Sangokumusō , as it differed significantly from the original genre and style of the first. The subsequent titles were then published as Shin Sangokumusō 2 etc. Internationally, however, Shin Sangokumusō came as Dynasty Warriors 2 on the market, which resulted in a permanent discrepancy between the numbering in Japanese and the international publications.
