The E.-T.-Compton-Hütte , also simply Comptonhütte , is a refuge of the Alpenverein Austria section of the PES on the northern flank of the Gailtal Alps , north of the Reisskofel ( 2371 m ). It stands on the Schönboden at an altitude of 1585 m above sea level. A. and offers about 20 beds. It is named after the German-English painter and mountaineer Edward Theodore Compton .
Access is on foot from the Drautal ( Greifenburg or Berg im Drautal / Feistritz district) in about 3 hours. A forest road leads up from the Pließalm ( 1120 m ). The hut is an important base on the Gailtaler Höhenweg . This is reached via the ascent called Padiaursteig at Törl ( 2019 m ), from where the Reisskofel in the west and the Sattelnock in the east .
history
The hut was built by the Austria Section between 1925 and 1928 and opened on August 12, 1928. In 1978 a deeper spring was taken, a water pipe was built and the water problem that had existed until then was solved.
