Esperanza y Compañía
Esperanza y Cía SA ( ECIA ) was a Basque defense company with its headquarters in the municipality of Markina-Xemein , province of Bizkaia , País Vasco in Spain .
history
The Fábrica de Armas Esperanza y Cía SA (ECIA) was founded in 1925 by the arms manufacturer (Spanish brand: ASTRA ) Juan Esperanza-Salvador (1860–1951) from Huesca . In 1978, ECIA was the arms company in Spain with the highest export volume . 1982 exported ECIA weapons for 3,500 million pesetas in Iraq . In 1986, ECIA exported mortars to the Middle East . In 1989, ECIA negotiated a new mortar project with the USA . In 1999 the mortar specialist became part of the Unión Española de Explosivos (UEE) group.
In July 2000, UEE in Álava , the production facility called ECIA with 72 employees, and the development department called Expal with 12 employees, closed.
