EDU (university)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

EDU is a private university in Kalkara ( Malta ) operated by Digital Education Holdings Ltd. (DEH), which is officially recognized by the National Commission for Further and Higher Education (NCHFE) as a provider of higher education. Since 2018, the range of courses has included an English-language Bachelor in Medicine; In April 2019, the consecutive master’s program in medicine was also accredited by the NCFHE.

University

The program was launched for the partnership project “ Working for Health ” (# working4health) of the World Health Organization ( WHO ), the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation ( OECD ) and was launched on June 27, 2018 by Evarist Bartolo, Minister for Education and Labor of the Republic of Malta, nationally recognized. At the same time, the “Bachelor of Medicine” was accredited within the European Qualifications Framework.

The spokesman for the founding faculty is the Bonn anesthetist Professor Dr. Andreas Hoeft, the day-to-day business and the administration of teaching operations are managed by the managing director Dr. Jürgen Laartz and Chancellor Holm Keller . The teaching hospitals for the students are currently the Helios clinics in Berlin-Buch , Erfurt , Krefeld , Wiesbaden , Oberhausen , Hildesheim and Bad Saarow . Further teaching hospitals in other EU countries and African countries are to follow in order to train medical staff locally.

Education

A recognized general university entrance qualification is required for the course. In addition, proof of special aptitude is required by passing an entrance examination.

You can start your studies up to nine times a year. The standard period of study for the bachelor's degree in medicine is three years (9 trimesters) and for the consecutive master's degree it is 2 years (6 trimesters).

The academic year is divided into 3 trimesters / modules, in each of which 8 weeks of English-language online distance learning and then 4 weeks of practical lessons in a teaching hospital take place in the national language; There is a week of flexible time between the units. As in many other European countries, the EDU curriculum is more closely timed than in the German course.

Degrees and Recognition

The Bachelor's degree in medicine enables graduates to work in medical professions. According to EDU, the master’s degree will also make it possible to work as a doctor throughout Europe. The basis for this view is that the course was designed on the basis of EU Directive 2005/36 / EC of the European Parliament and the Council of September 7, 2005 on the recognition of professional qualifications, according to EDU. With a contract for the supervision of the curriculum and teaching with the University of Maastricht, EDU is also "under the supervision" of a university in accordance with EU guidelines.

criticism

The President of the State Medical Association of Thuringia, Ellen Lundershausen, criticizes the fact that online distance learning cannot convey the complete specialist knowledge of a medical state examination, and that the tuition fees of 19,500 euros annually are too high. EDU replies that the master’s degree is an equivalent degree to other European master’s courses in medicine. “In our curriculum, we have based our curriculum on the German, Dutch, Swiss and English catalogs of learning objectives,” says EDU founder Laartz. The quality is accordingly high. This has been confirmed by the accreditation process. When communicating the learning objectives, particular emphasis is placed on problem-oriented and collaborative learning. This is made possible by the personal atmosphere and small group size. According to EDU, attendance at the online events is mandatory, the number of participants is limited. The students would have to work on patient cases independently in the virtual classroom every week and present them later in the seminar. EDU wants to look for financing options together with students, for example student loans and some scholarships.
