The eFotbal Aréna is a football stadium in the Czech capital Prague . The football club FK Viktoria Žižkov traditionally plays its home games here on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. The stadium is located in the middle of a residential area in the densely populated Žižkov district . It is only a few hundred meters from Prague Central Station and the Prague TV Tower . From its opening until 2012, the venue was called Stadion Viktoria . Since then, it has borne the sponsor name of the Czech soccer internet portal eFotbal.cz . The eFotbal Aréna currently seats 5,037 spectators.

history

The stadium was built in 1952 on the site of a field owned by the SS Plincner company team . The original capacity was around 15,000 spectators. In 1966 the stadium got a new lawn instead of ash. Two years later, a covered grandstand for 2,000 spectators was built on the north side of the stadium. The stadium received a floodlight system in 1973.

After the Velvet Revolution , there was a dispute for years over who owned the property under the stadium. Eventually the owner, the City of Prague, leased the land to the association for 80 years. The club could then begin the long-planned renovation of the stadium. In 2002, the club replaced the standing room on the west and south stands with red and white plastic seats. This reduced the capacity from 8,000 to 5,700 viewers. In addition, the pitch was expanded to 105 × 68 meters in order to meet the requirements of the association for a stadium of the highest league.

A year later, Viktoria modernized the main stand and installed a new floodlight system. As a result of these measures, the capacity fell again, the stadium at that time only held 4,600 spectators.

In the summer of 2007, a new grandstand with 1,000 seats was finally built on the previously vacant east side. The club replaced the old seat shells on the west and south stands. In addition, a new clubhouse with a fan shop and other club rooms was built next to the main stand.

In the 2008/09 Gambrinus League season , FK Bohemians Prague (formerly FC Střížkov Praha 9) also played their home games at the Viktoria stadium because the previously used space in the Horní Počernice district did not meet the requirements of the Czech Football Association.
