The EN 60204-1 , entitled Safety of machinery - Electrical equipment of machines - Part 1: General requirements governs as part of standard EN 60204 Safety of machinery general considerations and recommendations for the safety , operability and maintenance of electrical equipment of machines .

The European standard is based on the modified ISO version IEC 60204-1: 2005. In the context of the VDE set of standards, this was the standard VDE  0113-1: 1998-11 (valid until June 1, 2009), see DIN-VDE standards part 1 . Author and publisher of the German DIN standard DIN EN 60204-1: 2006 is the German Institute for Standardization , the corresponding ÖNORM is ÖVE / ÖNORM EN 60204-1: 2007-08-01, the Swiss standard is SN EN 60204-1: 2006.

The purpose of the set of rules is to avoid dangerous situations and their risks and to take safety measures into account during construction . In addition, this should facilitate maintenance and repair measures, make the machine more reliable and easier to operate . So z. For example, the ambient temperature in EN 60204-1 is the temperature of the air or another medium in which the equipment is used as intended.

EN 60204-1 has been the DIN standard in Germany since June 1, 2007; the previous DIN EN 60204-1 (VDE 0113-1): 1998-11 may no longer be used since June 1, 2009.
