ES Uzès Pont du Gard

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Entente Sportive Uzès Pont du Gard or ES Uzès PG or ESUPG for short was a French football club that had its headquarters in the southern French city of Uzès , but also in several neighboring municipalities ( Arpaillargues-et-Aureillac , Fournès , Remoulins , Saint-Siffret , Vers-Pont-du-Gard ) was anchored in the area of the Pont du Gard , where its youth teams played their home games and the league eleven completed part of their training.

History and predecessor clubs

The ESUPG did not come into being until 2005 as a result of the merger of two local clubs, namely the Gallia Club d'Uzès , which was founded in 1907, and the Entente Sportive Pont du Gard , which in turn emerged from the merger of several clubs from the towns mentioned above. The Gallia Club had played longer in the Division d'Honneur , the highest regional amateur class, until the mid-1960s , and in the 1980s for three seasons even in the then fourth-highest division. After that, he only appeared in regional play classes.

The club colors of the ESUPG were red and black. The league team played their home games at the Stade Louis Pautex in Uzès, which has a capacity of 1,200 spectators. After the club was dissolved in 2015 (see the section below), some of the members founded a new club, the Entente Sportive Pays d'Uzès .

League affiliation and achievements

ES Uzès has never had professional status. Two years after the merger, the first men's team rose for the first time; three further promotions followed, the last in summer 2012 from the Championnat de France Amateur (CFA) to the semi-professional third division . This was followed in 2013 by direct relegation, which however became obsolete due to license withdrawals for several other clubs. In 2014 there was final sporting descent, as a result of which the club was even relegated to the fifth division. After being relegated to the d'Honneur division in 2015, the club filed for bankruptcy in June 2015 due to over-indebtedness - we are talking of over 400,000 euros - and dissolved.

In the French cup competition , neither the Entente Sportive Uzès Pont du Gard nor their predecessor clubs have ever reached the national main round. In the 2011/12 edition, however , the ESUPG only narrowly failed to get there when they lost 1-0 in the eighth round qualifying for the thirty-second finals at FC Montceau .
