history
In the Gallo-Roman period (52 BC to 486 AD) there were several villas in the municipality, especially near Aureillac . Arpaillargues was a fortified village in the Middle Ages. The community was dominated by agriculture, especially viticulture and olive production . Part of the production was labeled “royal wines” and sold to Paris . There are two mills in the municipality, both of which date from around the 11th century. In the 14th century the population suffered greatly from the plague. The walls were torn down in 1732 to expand the town. In 1890 there were 290 hectares of vines that were almost completely destroyed by phylloxera . It was not until 1980 that the population of 200 hectares had largely recovered.
