history
The community area had been settled since the Stone Age, which is proven by numerous finds. The present village was founded at a time that is not exactly known, but probably towards the end of the 1st millennium. It was a settlement that consisted of only a few houses. The part of the name Euzet is derived from the Occitan word euse , which means holm oak . This can be explained by the numerous occurrences of this tree in the region. The part of the name Saint-Michel was probably added in the Middle Ages.
Mainly because the village was at the crossroads of important trade routes, it was fortified in the Middle Ages. Part of the municipality was administered from 1204 by the Carthusian monastery of Valbonne in the neighboring town of Saint-Paulet-de-Caisson. Thanks to the construction of a small church, which at the beginning possibly served as a cemetery chapel, the size of the place grew around the same time.
