Vallabrègues is a French commune with 1,392 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gard department in the Occitanie region .

geography

Vallabrègues is the only municipality in the Languedoc-Roussillon region on the left (eastern) side of the Rhône . The municipal area also includes areas in the plain west of the Rhône. The reason for this location is the change in the course of the river Rhône. A few kilometers downstream is a hydropower station in the river, which also offers the opportunity to cross the dammed Rhône Canal at this point and, after a distance of around 2 km, the Rhône and the Gardon towards Comps .

The place is about 20 kilometers away from both Avignon and the district capital Nîmes .

Transport links

The D 183A runs through the village, which connects it on the one hand to a Rhône bridge further north and on the other to Tarascon to the south, near which is also a bridge over the river. Another river crossing is the route described above via the hydropower station (D 28).

Other roads lead via Boulbon into the eastern hinterland. There is no direct rail link.

The place has a small marina and a pier for cargo ships.
