In 1384 Orsan belonged to the diocese of Uzès . The community at that time had about thirty residents. The village was also affected by the Tuchin uprising . In 1383 the rebellious peasants who were directed against the bishops of Uzès devastated the town of Laudun . The area around Bagnols-sur-Cèze and Pont-Saint-Esprit was particularly hard hit by the uprising. At the beginning of the 16th century, Pierre de Cambis , a knight whose family originally came from Florence , became ruler of the village. Before 1568 Orsan had sided with the Protestants during the Huguenot Wars . In March 1568, the Viscount of Joyeuse brought the village back to the side of the Catholics. Orsan has been part of a high-quality wine-growing region since the 17th century. In 1661 the parish was merged with a parish of Bagnols-sur-Cèze. In 1696 a cadastre was created by the municipality. In 1721, when the plague raged in Alès , sanitary measures were introduced in Orsan. On November 29, 1795, the residents of Orsan requested the division of public property, which happened on December 5, 1800. On September 22, 1798 and 1799, Republic Day was celebrated in the communes of the canton of Roquemaure, to which Orsan was then part. The new cemetery was inaugurated on May 5th, 1816. In 1833 a lavoir was built . On April 9, 1855, the new bell of the old church was consecrated. In 1863 it was decided to build a new church. Construction was completed in 1868.
In the 19th century 450 people lived in the village. All residents were of the Catholic faith. There were some coal mines in the late 19th century, but they were soon abandoned due to the poor quality of the coal. In addition, madder was grown in Orsan during the 19th century .
