La Capelle-et-Masmolène is a French commune with 439 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gard department of the Occitania region .
geography
The municipality consists of the two districts of La Capelle and Masmolène . The two places, whose cores are only 800 meters apart, are separated by a small wooded hill. The municipality is located about ten kilometers from Uzès .
history
In 1814 the two districts of La Capelle and Masmolène were combined into one municipality. In 1810 the pond near the village was drained by the monk Benoît .
The common coat of arms was created in 1694. There it can be seen on the Saint-Martin church .
The place La Capelle was the summer residence of the bishops of Uzès until the French Revolution . Masmolène was originally called Mommolena (1121). There is a small Romanesque chapel from 1044.
