Estézargues is a French commune with 579 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gard department in the Occitanie region .
geography
The municipality is located between Nîmes, 26 kilometers away, and Avignon, 16 kilometers away . The municipal area is very long in north-south direction. Neighboring municipalities are Valliguières in the north, Théziers in the south, Saint-Hilaire-d'Ozilhan and Fournès in the west and Domazan and Rochefort-du-Gard in the east.
history
Finds of flint (1800 BC) and old vases suggest that the area had been inhabited since early history. The village later emerged from several neighboring farms. A representation of Bacchus and Ariadne from the 2nd or 3rd century was found near Estézargues in 1896. Since 1620 the village appeared under its current name.
