Aubord is a commune with 2375 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gard department in France .
geography
Aubord is located about 15 km southwest of Nîmes at the transition between the geomorphological landscape units Vistrenque and Costières du Gard . In the east, Aubord borders the municipality of Générac , in the north-west on Bernis .
From a geographical point of view, Aubord is known as the gateway to the Little Camargue (Porte de la Petite Camargue). The vast estuary of the Vistre begins between Bernis and Aubord and merges into the Petite Camargue at Vauvert .
In Aubord, apricots are mainly grown , while viticulture and peach growing also play an important role. The on Villafranchian - gravels of the Costières du Gard vineyards located are as AOC Costières de Nîmes classified terroir. High quality AOC wines are grown there.
Population development
The population development of Aubord is remarkable. The population rose from 249 in 1962 to 1910 in 1999. It has increased almost tenfold. This makes Aubord one of the communities with the greatest population growth in France over the past 30 years. The considerable population growth of Aubord is mainly due to the economic growth of Nîmes over the last twenty years.
