Bellegarde is a commune with 7,129 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in France and is located in the Gard department in the Occitanie region .

The municipality gives its name to the Clairette de Bellegarde wine-growing region in the Languedoc wine-growing region , under which only white wine is marketed. The red and rosé wines of the region are marketed under the name Costières de Nîmes , which paradoxically are assigned to the Rhône wine-growing region .

geography

Bellegarde is located near the eastern border of the Gard department , on the right bank of the Rhone , halfway between the neighboring municipality of Beaucaire and Saint-Gilles . Bellegarde is 17 km from Nîmes and 15 km from Arles , on the waterway of the Rhône-Sète Canal and has its own small port.
